Yoga For A Fitter Future

The word yoga is entitled to different meanings by different people from different parts of the world. It may be an art form for some, a means of escape from mundane stress for others.

Some may even consider yoga to be equivalent to meditation and breathing only. Yet yoga is so much more than that. Yoga is derived from Sanskrit origins which means ‘union'.

"Yoga means to move towards an experimental reality where one knows the ultimate nature of the existence, the way it was made", says Sadhguru, a spiritual leader.

"Yoga means the union of the individual consciousness or soul with the universal consciousness or spirit", says Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Some may say that there are various other ways of getting distressed, why only yoga. But then we forget to realise that after humping up and down heavyweights at the gym, chugging on protein shakes, going all out on special spa sprees and trying failed versions quick weight loss hacks, we end up tired and frustrated. And if that's not all, we always have a special golden ticket of an excuse of not having enough time. That is when yoga kicks in.

It is said that even thirty minutes of yoga a day helps keep stress at bay. One must understand that only when the mind is stable will efficiency pave the way to success, be it your work, diet or social relationships. That is not all though. Yoga can do wonders for its loyal practitioners other than just temporarily relaxing your tense muscles. Yoga indeed can do it all, it can transform a human being but only if one tries consistently to squeeze those extra few minutes in one's schedule to give it a chance.

Yoga is the master maker of flexibility in one's body. Also, it's not just biceps and triceps lunges and crunches that make one's muscle pop out, yoga strengthens ones muscle for a lifetime. Cortisol is one tricky aunty that lives in the human body. While a temporary boost in its levels leads to long-term memory, on the other hand, excessive increase in its levels for a long time leads to depression and osteoporosis. And if this aunty is stubborn enough to stay longer still, it leads to abdomen weight gain which further increases the risk of diabetes and heart attack. So this is what cortisol does to you. But at the same time, yoga helps maintain the adrenal gland which in turn helps maintain cortisol levels in the body.

Yoga also makes people happy. It does so by increasing serotonin levels in the body but this comes only with regular practice. It not only helps calm our nerves but it also helps improve our body balance, coordination and controlling the nervous system to some extent.

The best thing about yoga is that firstly, you can do it anywhere and what's better than doing it in the comfort of your home. It helps increase the sense of awareness, so the next one is about to burst with anger, he or she might take a moment to analyse the situation and answer sensibly instead of throwing ones emotion all over the place.

Yoga indeed is the shortest capsule to a healthy lifestyle in the fast paced mundane life of 21st century.
