Eating Chicken-Healthful Enough?

Indian history remarks saga of invasion by various fighters who then shaped India into a home to vibrant cultures. With vibrant cultures came diverse cuisines and nutrients. Being so vast, if the entire populace of India is to be divided into two categories, these can be vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Now, there has always been an altercation between these two that which one of these diets is more nutritious.



In the recent years, there has been a great shift among people towards vegetarianism, but non-vegan still like their food for its nutritional values. Now, the question that appears, Is non-vegetarian food really Healthy? Or to be more precise, is eating Chicken really healthy?

Vegans are fond of fruits, vegetables, and nuts and on the other hand, non-vegans have a huge taste developed for fish, meat , and chicken. Vegetarians struggle to get enough protein, iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and omega–3 fatty acids but non-vegetarians always have plenty of other options available.

As the data are given by national census, over 70% of the Indian population follows non-vegetarianism with Telangana having the highest number of non-vegetarians. People prefer Chicken and fish moreover red meat as they have less saturated fat.


There are plentiful reasons which make people believe it is healthy for them; some of the reasons to be listed are as follows:

Helps maintain healthy body weight:

Chicken is a good source of protein, and Vitamin B-complex, a metabolism booster, helps in muscle growth and maintaining blood vessels fit, keeps the energy levels high. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say, it is a must-have for athletes.


Good for Heart, Central nervous system and Immunity:

Chicken breast curbs homocysteine levels, an amino acid causing cardiovascular disease. It is ample in phosphorous which endures bones, liver, central nervous system and in selenium which is vital for thyroid, hormone, and immunity.



Acts as Anti-depressant:
Eating chicken increases the serotonin levels in the brain, which further enhances mood and reduces stress.

Benefits Eyes:

Chicken is rich in derivatives of vitamin A which are crucial for healthy eyesight.


But, there have been a lot of bird flu outbreaks in India, the recent one in the Indian capital Delhi, which creates a feeling of fear in its consumers. Cases of food poisoning from broiler chicken with its destructive and antibiotic-resistant bacteria like E. coli and arsenic exposure from chicken feed have come into the picture. If cooked improperly, chicken, formerly well thought-out as less unsafe, could become challenging.


As rightly said by Criss Jami, “An over-indulgence of anything, even something as pure as water, can intoxicate”, overeating of chicken and rely only on it for proteins can also be dangerous. But, not to worry, measures can always be taken to curb the problems. Choosing organic or free-range chickens and working against the way of eating chicken and balancing protein intake by taking vegetable proteins and cutting chicken intake can definitely help.
