We, since our childhood have always been fond of fishes, be it the aquarium one, or the one in the Disney movie ‘Finding Nemo’ or the other ones served on our plate. There is always a feeling of pleasure which follows when the former two are talked about but the later sometimes become too heavy on the pocket. Fishes are an intrinsic part of the diet to meet the protein requirements. But if you are still figuring out budget-friendly and sustainable fishes to cook right now, then read along to find more.
Sustainability simply means to be able to use a certain thing but also maintaining its consumption level so that the natural resources do not go exhausted. The reason why we need to go sustainable when buying fishes is that these are over-exploited and killed in very large numbers such that they become endangered, ultimately disturbing the marine ecosystem. The very next question that follows is how? One can opt for varieties of fishes so that burden is not only on one type of species. Another way is to go for fishes which are line-caught as it is more of a sustainable way to catch fish or one can simply go for farmed fishes. Still confused? Then below is the list you can simply follow.
Dorade: Glit headed brim in English or Dorade in French is full of mild buttery flavour and texture. It has a fatty skin inside which is deliciously sweet, juicy white flesh which at the same time is tender. Its small size makes it a great supper for one or two people and can definitely help to give break to cod. It also falls under the fair price range of six to nine dollars.

Cobia: Cobia or the black kingfish or the black salmon is considered the “Best Choice” to eat. It is a high-quality white fish that grows in warm water. The good thing about this is that it does not taste fishy and can be used for high-end sushi with a rich taste.

Porgy: Porgies are abundant and are easy to catch as they are slow swimmers. It has a sweet delicate flavour and an edible skin. It is a white-fleshed fish with a lot of bones but is indeed a good alternative. One can have it whole, filleted, baked, fried or grilled.

Mackerel: It is another type of line-caught fish full of Omega-3 oils but can be consumed only when fresh. While buying one should look for lustrous skin and firm flesh and a pleasant odour. It can be fried, grilled, smoked or pickled.

Catfish: It is rich in fat and high-quality protein and is ray-finned fish. Farm raised fish does not taste like mud and therefore has nothing to worry and yes it is flavourful. It can be baked, grilled, deep-fried or broiled.

Fishes are rich in high-quality protein and vitamin-D which makes them a good choice for a healthy diet. So grab your favourite fish with a bowl of rice, maybe grilled or smoked or prepare your dish with curd.
