Banana and its benefits

Fruits are nutritious and are often referred to as healthy in one's life. Fruits are a natural source of vital amines and minerals. Each fruit has its own health benefits but here we will talk about the fruit of gold--Banana. Banana is an edible fruit produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants in the genus musa. It has different sizes, colour and firmness and maybe a little curvy in shape. Colour varies from green, yellow, red, purple to brown when ripe. The world's largest producers of banana in 2016 was India and China, who together accounted for 28% of total production. The term banana is also used as a common name for the plants that produce the fruit.

The banana plant, often erroneously referred to as a "tree", is a large herb, with succulent, very juicy stem "pseudostem" which is a cylinder of leaf-petiole sheaths, reaching a height of 20 to 25 ft (6-7.5 m) and arising from a fleshy rhizome or corm. Suckers spring up around the main plant forming a clump or "stool'', the eldest sucker replacing the main plant when it fruits and dies, and this process of succession continues indefinitely. Tender, smooth, oblong or elliptic, fleshy-stalked leaves, numbering 4 or 5 to 15, are arranged spirally. (reference from Wayne P.) People use bananas to make large cream pies, breads, cakes and also fruit salads. Bananas are very nutririous as they contain vitamins and potassium and contains more vitamin B6 than any other fruit. There are also certain banana beliefs. Hindus view the plant as a sign of prosperity and fertility. It is because of it continuous reproduction. Many pregnant women bathe with banana leaves for two weeks. In the pacific islands of Hawaii warriors used to use banana plant as their flag.

There are many health benefits for the fruit. First and foremost is that it makes the digestive tract healthy as it contains lot of fiber which is good for our digestive system. Secondly, it improves the functioning of the kidney and also reduces high blood pressure due to high concentration of potassium in it. Thirdly, it improves energy due to high concentration of carbohydrates in it.

It makes vision healthy and also improves our eye sight and also strengthen bones of our body. As it contains a lot of vitamins, minerals and iron so it helps in overcoming anemia. It helps in enhancing our skin and makes our skin and face glow. It also prevents constipation as well as treat it if a person is suffering from constipation. However some people may have banana allergy and if he or she eats a banana then they may experience symptoms in the mouth and throat such as itching, wheezing, swelling and hives. So banana is a must for everyone as it serves many health benefits which improves the overall personality of a person.
