People love eating chicken not only because of its flavours but because it is also a healthy source of protein and when it is served with wine that is like some extra brownie points. But if you ever had a confusion that which wine would go with chicken, then, frankly speaking, as there are hundreds of ways to prepare chicken and so are the types of wines, which means there is a lot of scope for permutations and combinations and in the end, it depends on your personal taste. To get you started with we have some tried and tested combinations as well.

Generally, white meats are paired with white wine whereas dark meats are paired with red wine because of the notion “Lighter the meat, lighter the wine”, but only your taste-buds can tell if this is true enough.
According to food experts, one should choose a wine which balances the flavour’s intensity and the main elements of the meal like acidity, sweetness or the sourness, so that both the food and wine enhances each other’s taste. Sometimes it is the sauce and not the chicken or the main ingredient of your dish which needs to be matched with wine.
Andre Simon once said, “Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant, every day more civilized” and maybe that is why it is considered to be the best complimentary drink to be served with any kind of food.
Believe it or not, but with its huge variety, it can entirely form another domain of food science which we still need to master. However, which wine is to be chosen also depends on the way chicken is prepared.
Here is a quick guide you can follow when not getting an outcome from all your experiments.
Wine with Chicken in a creamy and mild flavoured sauce:
Rich White wines like Chardonnay, oaked Chenin Blanc and Viognier can be served with chicken having a soft texture.
Wine with a roasted chicken:
A Red wine such as Burgundy, Syrah, Amontillado Sherry, Pinot Noir, and White wines such as Savennieres compliments well with roasted chicken having higher acid contents.
Wine to pair with chicken Stir-fry:
With spicy stir-fry: Pinot Blanc and unoaked Chardonnay.
With green vegetable rich: Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner.
With sweet and sour stir-fry: Sweeter wines such as Brachetto d’Aqui.
Wine to pair with Barbecue:
With this sweet, spicy and smoky dish red wines and rose wines do wonder. Try out, Zinfandel, Riesling or Gewürztraminer.
Each wine comes from a different region and has a different flavour so there can only be pairing recommendations and not conclusions. Thus, go on exploring different combinations that work best for you. But just one thing that should be made sure is that the wine you choose should not overpower the taste of chicken.
