Introducing The Latest Food Trend: The 'Avolatte'

The hipsters are a part of the current generation of millennials. People who faithfully follow latest fashion and trends and those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.

A constant trend over the last year has been the ridiculously expensive avocado. Whether it is avocado on toast or guacamole with almost everything; these free spirits do find a way to squeeze avocado into their food. People have also begun to replace the classic sesame seed burger bun with avocados for buns. However, it went a step too far when a café in Melbourne made an avocado skin as a latte cup.

“Combining two of Melbourne's obsessions — lattes and avo”, was the caption to the video made by a barista from Truman Café, Melbourne. The barista who posted this video was joking and made the video to mock the crazy hipster trends. The video had an unexpected effect though; people all over the world started copying this and it soon became a fad and thus the avolatte was born.

The Avolatte is made when an avocado is cut in half and most of the flesh is scooped out. It is then filled with coffee and has latte art on the top. ‘Avolatte’ spread like wildfire and became a coffee trend worldwide within weeks.

A lot of people have different opinions on the avolatte. Some are critiquing it as absurd spending patterns of millennials. They see it as an excuse for young people to spend money on trends that don’t really fulfil any purpose. It is also thought to be a ridiculous and a useless invention that the youth are wasting their time on when they could be more productive with their time.

When trends like these come up they make us question the society we live in. Some of the questions that come to mind - Why should anyone pass moral judgement on what one chooses to eat or not eat? Are trends like these actually improving our generation or deteriorating it? We might never find any conclusive answers to these questions but everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as they do not force it on others.
