A peaceful protest that turned into havoc of a battle is the Syrian Civil war. What began as the opposition against the power family Al-Assad, who passed on Syrian presidency as a heritage heirloom since 1971 turned into a nasty battle field. From Hafez al-Assad they passed on to Bashar al-Assad in 2000 and people feared it would go on. This was also due to the constant disappointment of people by the lack of implementation of any economic and political reforms.
They had high numbers of unemployment, minuscule opportunities as well as a small-scale and very slow development process and hindered political freedom. Also, the merciless killings and brutal tortures of 15 students in detention who made graffiti based on the anti presidency persuaded the people of Syria to feel oppressed under the Presidency of Bashar al-Assad.
Inspired by Arab Spring rebellion in 2011, Syrians began a peaceful protest opposing the President. This then aroused a full-scale nationwide protest against The President, which then triggered the government to use deadly arms and forces against the peaceful protestors.
This led to the formation of the Free Syrian Army in July 2011 by the people who vowed to bring down the reign of Bashar al-Assad. This insurgence lacked coordination, leadership, arms, funding, and discipline. They spread far and wide, which led to disputes and armed attacks on civilians from both the sides. Villages were massacred, a substantial number of people were killed miscellaneously. The residents of Syria, who belonged to the community of Alawites, the ethnicity of the President family were specifically attacked. Slide into the Syrian Civil War, both sides responded by killing and imprisoning lots of civilians and gang members. This war has said to have cost many poverty, deaths, economic disasters and global warming around Syria.
The Free Syrian Army and their alliance with Syrian Democratic Forces, Salafi jihadist and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are fighting the Syrian government on the other side and massacring thousands. This led to many attempts of peace treaties and initiatives from outside organizations. The United nations tries its best to stop the breach and assaults done on people, which violates their rights.

This ongoing war raises victims and casualties on both sides, especially to civilians. Also catching attention and allies from outside countries, causing them to take part in this war, utilizing horrifying weapons like chemical attacks and bombs has lead to large-scale carnage and slaughter.
