Following the series of events that have led to this, in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, parents of 10 teenagers have been sentenced to a day in prison for letting their children drive.

As a part of this campaign, parents will be held responsible for allowing a minor to drive. According to the police, 35 parents served a one-day jail term last month for the same reason. As reported by a police officer, this would encourage parents to make a conscious effort at not letting their underage children drive the vehicles.

Criticising parents for not being responsible for their children, Magistrate K Altaf Hussain has issued a penalty of Rs 500 on each parent and put them on trial under Section 180 of Motor Vehicle Act.

There has also been consistent efforts at tracking down teenagers who post videos of themselves performing life-threatening stunts on the roads. Since these children are aged less than 18 years, their parents have been arrested. Bangalore, also tried to promote safe driving on its roads last year. Roads accidents are the most common form of accidents in India. This could be due to a lot of reasons like, careless driving or poorly maintained roads and vehicles. In 2017, police recorded 130 road accidents involving minors, as reported many of them turned out to be near-fatal and in some cases caused death. In order to instill fear in minds of parents and their children, Hyderabad Traffic police decided to go tough against with its rules and regulations to ensure greater safety by initiating punitive action and hold parents responsible for allowing their children to ride vehicles.
