Mistakes every person make in their cover letters

Writing a cover letter becomes less tricky if you are told it’s do's and don’ts. So we are pointing out some mistakes which you should not overlook before submitting your cover letter.

1. Putting yourself in spot light

You need to understand that the company is looking for someone who would benefit them. So, put yourself aside and focus on their good. Tell about your master plan and strategies. Also, throw some light on your useful traits and accomplishments.

2. Giving too much detail

Try to not give the recruiter too much info about your background. Do not mention every job you have done and why you left it. Keep it short and simple when it comes to telling experiences and include only the relevant ones. Avoid bragging about your skills.

3. Telling your unpleasant experiences

Do not mention any odd chapter of your life. Either it could be some bad encounter or anything personal. Focus on now and tell about your present life only.

4. Filling up space unnecessarily

Keep your letter as concise as possible. Avoid writing useless things to make it long. Assume that your reader already has a huge pile of cover letters to go through. By including more than what is needed, you are not only making their job difficult but also decreasing your chances of selection.

5. Copying your resume

Do not paraphrase your resume in your cover letter. Tell the recruiter why they should give you this job instead of listing each and everything you have done till now. Filter out only relevant points from your resume and explain them.

6. Using typical phrases

If you are beginning your letter by using sentences like “I would like to apply for this job because..” or “I am the perfect candidate for this job..”. Then probably you have already set your reader’s interest to zero right from the starting. Try not to make your letter look copied. Add unique and unusual sentences instead.

7. Acting like the biggest fan

Do not fill up your letter with so many good things about the company. They already know it and your job is to write in your given space how you can make this company even better.

8. Typing and grammatical errors

This is everything that you have to do before submitting a cover letter. No matter how much time you have devoted to writing one. It is customary to check and review your letter completely.
