The key lies in understanding the fact that if one is suffering from a temporary meltdown or a long-term low of the human spirit. Analysing oneself throughout the day is something one could start with. But when medication becomes a necessity, one must not hesitate for hesitation is the root of all problems. That is when the need for anti-depressants come into the picture.

The stigma against the use of anti-depressants has been recently broken by medicine and science. People are more open about such matters nowadays. Yet a larger section of the population is still unaware of such processes. Most of them fear the side effects of anti-depressants.

One must try to simply understand the fact that as we normally take medication for our physical health, our mental health also requires such attention from time to time. Recently there have been many studies and research based on the after effects of anti-depressants. It is found that they cause no harmful side effects on the human body.

Depression is a serious yet unnoticed and unattended ailment that most of us face in the 21st century. Usually when the serotonin levels in our body decrease or stop producing the amount of level it should be, then a possible result of such a problem is depression. Many doubt the effectiveness of such medication but medical science has proven after a lot of surveys and studies that anti-depressants successfully work in case of medium to severe depression levels.

People who have experienced the power of anti-depressants have been leading a better life since. Some of the most effective drugs in this situation are agomelatine, amitriptyline, escitalopram, mirtazapine and paroxetine. Some of the least effective drugs for the same are fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, reboxetine and trazodone.

Although anti-depressants work like magic, it is not always the first choice of treatment. It is always recommended to undergo certain psychological treatments or therapies before prescription of anti-depressants. In fact, one must have a backup therapy while undergoing medication so as to recover successfully and in a short period of time.

Also, awareness campaigns on such critical issues must be taken up to make the public feel at ease while undergoing such treatments. Change is only possible when one implements it himself/herself. Social stigmas against such processes are the reason behind the increase in death rates caused by suicides.

Mental health is a very delicate matter, one that decides the state of one’s past, present and future.
